Big mood, Taikomochi. Big mood

Get this episode on nyaa!

First post yay! Okay let’s get this out of the way first: this is indeed the same Kirb from NyoroZokuSubs, y’know the last group. We did have to put ourselves in a state of indefinite hiatus due to our schedules not really working out, but I’ve made the decision to work with @noroinohanak0 in order to keep helping out with fansubs as much as I can! For the most part I’ll be working semi-independently on that big ol’ blob of 60 or so old episodes that haven’t been subbed yet. My release schedule is likely going to be very sporadic because I can get very busy and I’d like to avoid burnout, so do forgive me for that. I’ll be doing my best though!

Now onto the actual episode! Here’s some fun facts about today’s Yo-kai:

  • Iballoon is a combination of the Japanese verb “ibaru", which essentially means to act bossy, arrogant, boastful, insert other synonyms, and the English word “balloon”. You could say he’s full of hot air! *rimshot*
  • Taikomochi is not only a portmanteau of “taiko”, like a taiko drum, and “mochi”, a popular rice-cake like snack in Japan eaten especially during New Year’s, but also a play on the noun “taikomochi”, basically the word for an ass-kisser. In the episode, Whisper says that Taikomochi specializes in “aizuchi”, the Japanese term for when you reassure the person speaking that you’re listening by making relevant interjections. It’s one of those words that doesn’t have a direct translation to English, but I tried.
